Alexandre Cabrita

I am an HCPC-registered Art Psychotherapist and a member of BAAT, working with a variety of issues including anxiety, trauma, PTSD, birth trauma, sleep difficulties, bereavement, self esteem issues, addiction, relationship issues and emotional distress. My approach is calm, attuned, and relational, offering a safe and containing space to explore experiences that may feel overwhelming, confusing, or difficult to put into words.

I have an intuitive, playful and relational approach and have been working therapeutically for over 15 years. During this time I have worked as an online Counsellor, an Art Psychotherapist and a therapeutic Art facilitator with children and young people in both primary and secondary schools, higher education settings, therapy centres and Online.

At the core of my practice is the belief that therapy can support healing when there is space to slow down, feel emotionally held, and begin to make sense of both present difficulties and past experiences.

As an Art Psychotherapist, I offer a creative and reflective therapeutic approach that does not require any previous experience of art. Creative processes can support expression where words alone are not always sufficient, particularly when working with trauma, anxiety, or early relational experiences. This can enable deeper access to thoughts, feelings, and patterns that may feel out of reach in talking therapy alone.

“Art therapy can help people of all ages and at all stages of life, including those whose life has been affected by difficult personal or cultural experiences, illness and/or disability. You do not need to be skilled in art to benefit from art therapy.”

“Art therapy uses art as the primary mode of expression, alongside talking with an art therapist. It aims to reduce distress and improve social, emotional and mental health by promoting insight, self-compassion and a sense of agency and self-worth.”

“During art therapy, you are supported by an art therapist to use art to express and articulate often complex thoughts and feelings through art making. This may be following difficult or traumatic experiences which may be hard to talk about.”

– The British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT)

How is art therapy regulated?

In the UK, the title art therapist and art psychotherapist are protected by law. All UK art therapists must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

All registered art therapists can be found on the HCPC’s register.* Rhian’s entry currently uses her pre-married name of Rhian Davies and her previous location of London.

I am also a trained EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) therapist, offering EMDR both as a standalone treatment and as an integrated part of my clinical work.

EMDR is an evidence-based psychotherapy designed to help the brain reprocess distressing or traumatic memories. It can reduce the emotional intensity of past experiences and support recovery from trauma andPTSD as well as other issues like anxiety, depression, and birth trauma. This process allows traumatic memories to become less overwhelming and more adaptive, helping individuals move forward with greater ease and emotional stability.

Alongside Art Psychotherapy and EMDR, I draw on mindfulness, breathwork, Yoga Nidra, and Non-Sleep Deep Rest (NSDR) to support nervous system regulation. These approaches can be particularly helpful for sleep disturbance, anxiety, panic, and states of hyperarousal, supporting the body and mind to return to a calmer, more settled state.

My training and experience as a yoga and Yoga Nidra teacher (including pregnancy yoga) informs my clinical work and strengthens my understanding of the mind–body connection in trauma recovery and emotional regulation.
